Abstract
The genus Polyphylla is distributed throughout the major portions of the northern and southern hemisphere but is more common in the temperate zones. Within North America the greatest number of species is in the western sections of the continent, being especially numerous in the southwestern and Pacific coastal regions of the United States. Blackwelder (1948) listed 26 species and one subspecies of Polyphylla which occur North of Mexico. Since then no additional species have been described.
