Start Date

Description
A major role of a constructivist teacher is to facilitate student learning through discussions, reflections, and making sense of tasks. Practical descriptions of constructivist approaches to learning and teaching in online courses are limited. This presentation will describe snapshots of constructivist teaching and learning in an online mathematics methods course. Benefits of the constructivist approach in an online course environment include promotion of student-centered learning, deeper understanding of content, and emphasis on professor-student and student-student interactions. Examples of assimilating technology for encouraging student thinking about a question, formulating an idea, and making meaning will be shared.
