Description

In their book, The New Science of Learning: How to Learn in Harmony with Your Brain, authors Todd Zakrajsek and Terry Doyle emphasize that learning is more difficult for those who are passive listeners rather than active participants. They also reinforce that learners create stronger connections in their brain when they engage with something in more than one way. This workshop will highlight some technological tools that are accessible and affordable, simple and user-friendly, and effective at reaching students and helping them engage. These technological tools will include (but are not limited to) Digital Escape Rooms, digital response systems, and online learning games. Digital Escape Rooms can be created using Google Forms and used across any discipline and in various delivery formats. They are a powerful way to ignite interest, gamify course content, and foster soft skills like teamwork, communication, collaboration, and creative thinking. Digital Escape Room activities and other technological tools can help student master key concepts, connect with their peers, and really engage in the learning process.
