Enhancing Global Student Engagement Through Study Abroad

This presentation will provide insights, tools, and strategies for designing study abroad experiences for academic programs that can lead to heightened engagement for students. Two current examples of study abroad programs (including both graduate and undergraduate levels) recently led by the presenters will explore key elements of study abroad experiences. Lessons learned from these programs will be shared, including: concept development, student recruitment, in-country logistics, and post-program evaluations. Study abroad guidelines and student engagement best practices as promoted by the Association of International Educators and the Forum on Education Abroad will be outlined and presented in the context of the presenter's experiences. Strategies for recruiting and engaging non-traditional, statewide campus students will also be explored and discussed.
