Description
At a time when much has been occurring outside our control, integrating a more learner-centered pedagogy into courses offers students freedom and power. Self-determination theory suggests that when individuals experience competence, autonomy, and relatedness, they feel more intrinsically motivated and have improved mental health. When students are able to make choices related to assignments, content, and timing in their classes, they are inspired to engage in the course. We will share tools and methods we use to enhance student motivation by integrating flexibility and choice into synchronous and asynchronous courses, empowering students to be active participants in their learning.
