Description

In Fall 2019 and Fall 2020, the USU Center for Student Analytics published a Student Insights Report* that was shared with students, faculty, and staff. This report was the result of a collaborative effort with dozens of units across campus to discover data-informed insights about what helps students succeed at Utah State University. One of the key findings of both reports was that well-designed Canvas courses and the inclusion of certain Canvas tools (i.e. grading rubrics) are strongly associated with increased student success and retention. This session will focus on certain design elements and simple and specific tools in Canvas that have been particularly instrumental in improving student engagement, motivation, and performance in courses taught by this presenter. Helpful tips about modules, rubrics, weighted assignments, benchmark grading, Delphinium, and other tools will be discussed. * 2019 Report, https://digitalcommons.usu.edu/analytics_pubs/3/; 2020 Report, https://digitalcommons.usu.edu/analytics_pubs/13/
