Streaming Media

Location

Logan, UT

Start Date

Description

Active learning has been demonstrated to be more effective than passive learning when considering long-term retention of information. This session will include examples of how to use a classroom response system, specifically the program Poll Everywhere, to incorporate active learning opportunities in a high enrollment lecture based course. In addition to increasing student engagement, in-class questions can also help build community among students in the course. This session will include an overview of the types of questions that can be created in Poll Everywhere, as well as how student participation can be reported in the Canvas gradebook for instructors that have an individual license. In addition, an individual instructor license allows the response system to be utilized for free by all students in the course, lowering the barrier for participation for students hesitant to purchase optional course materials.
