Abstract
Study of the angiosperm flower, linking form with function, has lead to the investigation of the interrelationships between flower and pollinating agent. The dependence of certain plants upon specific insects to make possible the production of fruit has been known since Biblical times, in the case of the date and the fig (Condit, 1947). Observations of this nature, however, long preceded understanding of what pollination represented and the concept of sexuality in plants.
