Abstract

The Mid-Century Modern style of furnishings and design originated in the 1940's and was short lived as other trends quickly took its place. Nowadays however, we are seeing this style resurface and return in force. It no longer applies only to furniture, but has spilled over into other areas of interior design as well. After personally observing this in both educational and professional projects that I contributed to, my interest in the style and its future has grown. The main questions that can be asked are: 1) Is the Mid-Century Modern style that we see today the same as the one in the past, or has it evolved and if so why? 2) Will the trend remain strong for a longer period of time or will it fade quickly and be replaced by another?
