Abstract
Open-source hardware and software platforms have become more prevalent for commercial, academic, and hobbyist project development over the past decade. A number of benefits arise from using these platforms including their low cost, large user-base and community support, availability of existing solutions to problems, and robustness. Our presentation will discuss Tyvak's approach of heavily utilizing open-source software platforms on CubeSats with a focus on key trade-offs and lessons learned.
