Abstract
It had been nearly ten years since my last overseas stint (Papua, New Guinea 1976-80), and I was ready for the sort of challenge a Fulbright Fellowship offers. My wife had had a short- (3-month) term Fulbright in Sweden in 1987, so we were familiar with the procedures. These are quite straightforwardC. IES publishes an annual "catalog" listing opportunities for research and teaching indexed by country and academic specialty. Details of the position as well as foreign language requirements, level of stipend, and so on, are spelled out quite dearly as are the directions for applying. For 1988-89, the only positions which fit my talents were in Brazil (no habla Portuguese) and Trinidad & Tobago.
