Running a Virtual Undergraduate Research Lab: How to Provide Opportunities for All Students
Start Date
8-18-2020 12:00 AM
Description
Often undergraduate distance students have challenges gaining valuable research experience. For distance students, the lack of proximity to a campus or not being as available during daytime hours can limited the type of activities these students can experience within an in-person lab. In this session, we will share lessons learned from our own research lab that has successfully integrated both on campus and distance undergraduate students in an equitable way over the last several years. We will introduce 3 big ideas that impact running a virtual, distance research lab. We will discuss ideas that others might use within their own field of study to provide a meaningful, intentional online research lab experience. We will share the elements that have worked well as well as challenges experienced and potential solutions.
