Pedagogies of (Self) Care: Cultivating Personal Well-Being in Your Teaching Practice
Start Date

Description
Particularly in the wake of COVID-19, "self care" has become a frequently used yet infrequently elaborated buzz word. Research related to pedagogies of care often refer to instructors caring for their students, but what of the instructors caring for themselves? I will begin this presentation with an overview of SoTL published since 2020 on academic self-care and well-being to identify strengths and limitations in that literature. I will then draw on literature outside of SoTL, namely pop culture self-help books, to suggest specific strategies that instructors can implement to more actively cultivate a practice of self-care within their teaching.
