Description

Due dates are a standard part of college courses and students accept them as part of a normal college life. Just as normal as due dates are circumstances that come up for students that make meeting some deadlines difficult. Many professors offer accommodations to students when life circumstances make hitting a due date difficult or impossible. In fact, many offer automatic, no-questions-asked, accommodations such as dropping the lowest assignment score or having a grace period for late submissions. This session presents a survey of automatic no-questions-asked accommodations, as well as poses questions about the purpose of the due dates in your courses. The purpose is to provide you with insight, tools and options to select or design an accommodation approach that best fits your course. Built-in course accommodations are not a one-size-fits-all solution. Some professors may find that each course they teach needs a different approach. A built-in accommodation that matches the style and goals of your class can help increase the rate of success for your students while enabling you to efficiently administer the course.
