Description
Successful college students understand the importance of feedback and revision cycles and take advantage of these activities when writing. USU's Writing Fellows Program empowers college student writers in specific courses by modeling the habits and strategies that lead to improved writing processes and written products, beginning with helping students understand faculty expectations for assignments. Faculty in courses with Writing Fellows enjoy grading higher-quality writing assignments and the time this saves. This session will inform participants about the Writing Fellows Program, a resource available to faculty who assign writing in their courses. Funded by the Provost's office, the mission of the Writing Fellows Program is to embed proficient writers as peer mentors into courses, at the request of the faculty member, to provide written and verbal feedback on student writing assignments. Students then revise based on this feedback before submitting the assignment for grading. Writing Fellows are high-achieving students from all disciplines, nominated by faculty, who undergo a competitive application and interview process.
