Description
Often, graduate students find themselves teaching undergraduate courses, sometimes without formal training on classroom instruction. This presentation is specifically for graduate students who teach undergraduate classes and would like to add new teaching strategies to their toolbox. In Spring 2023, the presenter took ASTE 6300: Advanced Teaching Strategies. This presentation was developed based on teaching strategies learned in that course. The books used for the course were "The New Classroom Instruction That Works" and "50 Strategies to Boost Cognitive Engagement" This presentation is a summarization of five strategies that can help engage students and increase higher level thinking in the classroom. The strategies chosen could be easily and effectively implemented into a college classroom and would be adaptable to the diverse content areas graduate students teach.
