Start Date

Description

Participants will learn how teaching outside the classroom benefits students in powerful ways as we will explore the activities, roles and relationships students should have to help their college experience really take-off. These activities include participation in student clubs, academic and other competitions, as well as career events, such as tours, industry visits to USU and career fairs. The roles students take on are far beyond that of student, but of a learner, linking to instructors and industry, and leadership opportunities for service learning. Finally, the relationships students create from this networking builds matches with future employers, membership in professional organizations/clubs, and connection with mentors to help them find their passion, preparation and confidence to be successful students. Teaching outside the classroom not only helps fulfill your teaching role statement, and we will cover how to document this in ETE and for your promotion documentation, but also can be where some of the greatest learning and success for your students will come. These opportunities often lend themselves to greater one-on-one mentoring, connection deeper than the academic material, and additional reflection for the students on your WHY for your career. This will help the students SOAR to SUCCESS!
