Participating in internships and other forms of experiential learning is one of the most impactful ways students can prepare for real-world challenges. This session will focus on how first-year students can strategically plan for and engage in meaningful work-integrated experiences early in their college journey. We will discuss the wide-ranging benefits of experiential learning for first-year students, including skill development, career exploration, and increased confidence. The session will provide practical advice on how students can find and apply for internships, research projects, and volunteer roles. We will also offer tips for maximizing the value of club involvement and other campus opportunities. Participants will leave equipped with strategies to support students in identifying, pursuing, and reflecting on early experiences that unlock their potential and prepare them for the demands of today’s workforce.
