Two teams from the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business recently placed first and second in an information systems competition in Bentonville, Ark., that pitted 82 teams from top universities around the world against each other, testing their IT skills and their ability to find innovative solutions. Nine Bloomberg Terminals are Available to Huntsman Students

Nicole Foregren-Velasquez, new faculty member with a joint appointment in the School of Accountancy and Management Information Systems departments, recently learned that her proposal to study knowledge management at NASA has received approval and funding in the amount of $15,000. This research engagement will investigate the use and impacts of knowledge management systems by system administrators, and recommend future directions for development and implementation. This is a particularly interesting project because the different NASA sites have drastically different cultures and norms. Outcomes of this project will include full academic publishing rights. The project will be completed over the summer.

Rosemary Fullerton Receives Honorable Mention

Professor Rosemary Fullerton received Honorable Mention for her submission to the Mark Chain/AICPA 2013 Teaching Innovation Award for her presentation titled “Lean Accounting in Support of Lean Manufacturing: Ronny the Robot Simulation,” at the recent AAA annual meeting. Congratulations to Rosemary who displayed her project post-retirement at the conference. She officially retired in June and will be greatly missed by students, faculty, and alumni.

Two Elijah Watt Sells Award Winners

We are pleased to announce that two recent graduates from Utah State’s School of Accountancy are 2012 Elijah Watt Sells Award winners. Jill Aoki and Anthony Lemon each earned nation leading CPA exam scores and received this prestigious recognition. We congratulate them for this impressive accomplishment! Jill and Anthony are both extraordinary individuals. Their dedication and hard work is what earned them their awards. 92,000+ candidates sat for the Uniform CPA Exam in 2012, and only 39 received the award. This is a great reminder of what is possible when engaged students and faculty meaningfully intersect in a carefully focused educational environment.

USU’s IMA Chapter Receives Multiple Awards

Congratulations to our IMA student chapter who not only received a 2012-2013 Gold Award of Excellence (for the 18th consecutive year), but was selected as one of only four IMA chapters in the nation to receive an Outstanding Student Chapter award for the 2012-13 academic year. In addition, the chapter has the prestigious honor of also being awarded Best Strategic Plan, Best Program & Activities, and Best Communications of all IMA chapters in the nation for the past academic year. For their outstanding performance, chapter officers will receive a $1,000 cash award and trophies at the annual Student Leadership Conference in Charlotte, NC, in November. Frank Shuman has served as chapter advisor for the past 18 years.

USU to Offer Online Master's Program in Human Resources

Utah State University's Jon M. Huntsman School of Business this month will launch a new online Master of Science in Human Resources degree program. The program will offer 12, seven-week courses and is designed to help students living in rural areas advance their careers in human resources.

Wes Yeomans Named to School of Accountancy Advisory Board

Wes Yeomans will replace Mark Stevens from Deloitte as the newest member of the SOA Advisory Board. Wes is a CPA with over 11 years of experience in public accounting. He is a CPA with over 11 years of experience in public accounting. His areas of expertise include banking and consumer business, fair value accounting, and Sarbanes-Oxley control compliance. He has a BS in accounting from Utah State University and a master’s degree in accounting from the University of Texas at Arlington. He is also a member of the AICPA and UACPA.
